Basement Lighting Ideas

By

Basement lighting is not much different than some of the best garage lighting ideas. In both cases, the room might be very dark and you will need to put in lighting that will be sufficient for whatever you are going to use the room for.

If you have decided to turn your basement into a movie room or theater room, the lighting you need will not be too important because you will want it dark much of the time anyway. You might toy around with mood lighting that will enhance the look of the movie room.

Much the same might be said if you get a basement game room where you have lots of pinball games or video games: having a darker room is okay because you have the added light from the machines. A basement game room that has rows of pinball machines looks VERY cool with the room lights turned low.

One type of lighting that looks great in almost any basement is track lighting. With track lighting you can choose the number of lights to have on the track and their brightness. You can also turn them different ways to focus light on certain areas of your basement or on certain items. The great thing about basement track lighting is that it allows you to spread the light out throughout the basement and turn what once was a dark room, into a very bright an lively room. Track lighting ups the “fun” factor in almost any room you choose to use it an it is one of the better basement ideas.

One thing that most people don’t consider is how the basement colors they choose will impact the lighting. When you choose darker colors on the basement walls, you may need to have brighter lighting if you want the room to be a normal brightness. Likewise, if your basement walls are white, yellow, or a light orange, the room will naturally be brighter and you will be able to get away with less lighting.
